Guide for Qibla direction

I got into this problem last time when I want to check the direction of qibla from inside my room.. The typical qibla compass that i have seem does not work properly, the needle not pointing to the same position, when i move around...  Perhaps the room is built with too much steel rods inside the wall.. or interference from any electromagnetic source, which I am sure not strong enough to cause any wrong pointing of the compass needle.. ..

Or simply the room is haunted.. hehehe.. I watch Discovery channel they said that supernatural beings emit electromagnetic radiation.. sort of ectoplasma in "Ghostbuster"... good job Dr Egone..

The  website help us in finding the direction of Qibla, without using compass.. but if you have compass it's better because you can compare with the result bearing.

Just type in your address.. place.. it will overlay a direction to Makkah on top of the map (Google Map)..  You can put the cross hair on top of your house, office, etc.. and the red line will show the Qibla direction. Since the line will cross structure that's familiar (like tall building, funny looking tower, strange tree) to you in your area.. you can use that structure as guide for your Qibla direction ...from your cross hair position...

For me, it's a very useful application,... May Allah bless the creator

You need to be patient, since sometime the application does not recognise your location...

I try checking the important Mosque in Malaysia.. and at my kampung...  they pointed correctly.... 

Cat name 'Macan Tutul'.... aka my kitten

Dear friends,
This is the photo of my kitten back home in Muar. At first we don't have any idea to name it. After watching "Kungfu panda", Luqman and I agreed to give the name... Macan Tutul... this is after the character "Tai Lung".. which is a Leopard... Leopard in Indonesian is Macan Tutul or Macan Terotol.. We just give that name because the kitten is so fierce, especially to Luqman..I also have hard time to take this photo.... 

Najihah (Luqman niece) call it "misai".. cause of the black patch under the nose.

Luckily we don't have to register the name of our pet, especially cat,.. if not, I cannot imagine the headache of the Registration Department staff.... "hello miss, i want to register my cat name... M A C A N... T E R U T U L... alias.... M I S A I... alias .... M A C A N ... T E R O T O L.... alias.... ...the list go on....

Anyway, the cat mum just call the kitten... "Miauwww...."... to all her kittens....

Ada beberapa orang teman yang mencadangkan aku tulis tip2 yg mudah kalau ingin ke Indonesia, sama ada untuk melancung, shopping, ziarah atau terpaksa.. sebab kerja.. heheh..

Panduan ini hanyala loose tips, bermakna ia hanyala berdasarkan pengalaman aku yg terbatas... dan byk kekurangan... terserah kepada pembaca sama ada nak ikut atau tak ikut.. 

Yang pertama sekali, wang... Kalau boleh tukar ke matawang Rupiah dulu di sana, sebab money exchange kat sini tak banyak dan rate dia kurang menarik. Kalau nak keluarkan duit pakai ATM, ingat mcm Maybank caj RM15 setiap kali transaction kat luar negara. Kalau sesiapa ada HSBC, lagi bagus, sebab sini byk ATM HSBC, dia caj dlm RM2 kut.. aku tak sure. Ada orang kata, tukar dulu ke USD, then tukar ke Rupiah kat sini.. aku rasa kita akan rugi 2 kali...lainlah masa kita tukar USD.. RM Kukuh... then bila kita tukar Rupiah.. USD jatuh....tak payah la.. buat pening kepala je. 

Sebut pasal money exchange rate ni... kalau sesiapa ada Handphone yg pakai Symbian... install application ni  http://www.mobimate.com/.  Pakai yg free version je.. dia boleh update currency exchange rate tiap hari pakai GPRS. Senangla kalau sesiapa yg nak shopping sana and selalu dok bandingkan dgn RM....

Ok.. ini pulak istilah2 yg selalu akan dipakai ... yg lain2 tu kalau nak dok lama sini la

• WC... ini mungkin perkataan yg paling penting and selalu di guna...  WC ( sebutan; weh say)... bermaksud bilik air.. asalnya dr perkataan Belanda , Wastafel

• Bandara ... airport.. dari perkataan Bandar Udara........ Pesawat... kapalterbang
• Gampang ... mudah
• Kantor... pejabat
• Pemerintah ... Kerajaan.. sebab kat sini takde Raja yg memerintah

• Bensen ...  minyak petrol..... SPBU (sebutan, es peh bay uh) Sarana pompa bensen umum... petrol pump la

Pengangkutan... kalau boleh naik taxi Bluebird, Express atau Gamya je... sebab taxi ini jalan ikut meter (sini sebut Argo) dan for our own safety la... taxi Bluebird highly recommended... tambang pun murah je.. tak macam driver and tambang kat sana.. kereta taxi sini baru2...boleh la naik Vios baru... kalau dah biasa kat sini, boleh la naik ojek .. taxi motor... tapi kalau utk keselamatan dan ramai naik... pakailah taxi

Timing... sebab kat sini, terutamanya Jakarta jem teruk.. hari2....so kalau nak ke mana2... rancangla betul.. in advance. Paling satu hari, boleh pergi 2 shopping mall je.. sebab jem teruk...

Kesehatan... digalakkan kalau nak ke sini, bawakla bekalan pil Chi Kit Teck Aun ke... minyak angin.. Imodium... Panadol actifast. Di sini, kadar polusi sangat tinggi (terutamanya Jakarta).. so keracunan makanan tu perkara biasa... kene cirit birit tu biasa, especially kalau tak jaga makan... aku dulu pernah kene Typhoid (demam kepialu).. aku akan ceritakan dlm posting akan datang...InsyaAllah

Makan minum... makanlah di rumah makan yg jelas berseh dan halal. Fast food pun banyak sini...  minum hanya air botol mcm Aqua atau mineral water lain. Air paip sini tak selamat diminum, kerana diorg pakai air telaga bwh tanah... kalau ke rumah makan.. minumla air dingin yg dlm botol.. jgn pakai ais.. sebab kebersihan ais tak dijamin

And,... hormatilah orang sini... jangan sangka mereka semua mcm buruh atau pembantu kat sana...  tak rugi hormati dan bersopan dgn org lain... org yg sangat kaya di sini.. jauh lebih banyak dr di sana...

Cat has been living with us, inside our houses.. on the roof top... just outside the windows..  they never been far from us.. either we like or dislike them...

Note: the photo is my late cat... actually i found them (2 kittens) last year, on the 1st Ramadan 1428H... in front of my kampung house., hiding among the bushes...I guess the kittens is abandoned or unwanted.... Since then, the cats have been living with us... and we like them.. a few month ago, when I call my mother back home, she mentioned that the male cat has died, run over by lorry in front of the house.

.... Luqman and I been fighting what's the best name for the male cat..  we call him.. "Jerboa".. referring to the new species of desert mouselike animal found in Africa during that time.. we also call him.. "Hemo-Hemo" after the cat character in famous children Ninja cartoon series... and we also call him.. Polar bear.. due to his look... My mother simply name him... Ujang..

Paper plane...

Last year, during the long,.... year end school holiday, I took my son to his grandmother house in Muar. Since I am in between job (in other word, jobless), I have plenty of time to spend with Luqman. Normally, when it come to November, December.. the weather won't be so kind ... rainy all day long. But lately, the weather have been drifting and more unpredictable, probably due to global warming, ozone layer, etc.. 

The weather was windy and the sky was clear. I ask Luqman, what he want to do.... cause I don't want him to spend too much time in front of TV. (what a hypocrites, the father is building a new digital TV system (DVB-H) abroad, and yet.. he disapproved his son watching TV too much... well job is job... life is life.....I bet Astro guys also doing the same ). So I browse the WWW (using 56k dial up jaring service,...... crawling.....), searching anything that can give me idea... I found paper plane.... Eureka.. yes...  cheap, simple outdoor activity... 

There are many sites on paper plane, but i think Joseph Palmer (http://www.josephpalmer.com/planes/Airplane.shtml)  site is probably among the best, cause the design is not so complicated and doable. Well,..... I have to show to him that I can make the plane fly, as mentioned.... 

My chosen design is the second, PL-3 Squarenose... the designer mention the design base on Ken Blackburn world recordbreaking paper plane. 

If you want to spend your time with your kid, at almost no cost... try this.. your kid won't be dissapointed.. and so do you... but better clean up after that... or other people wont be happy.

You may think your current paper plane design is OK,.. no harm trying new thing. There is one site that has a good design, but I think due to copyright issue, i'm not putting the link.

My digital compact camera.... and maybe soon to be

.....I Bought my first digital compact camera, I think back in 2003... Samsung Digimax V4.. 4 Megapixel resolution (the best during it's time for digital compact camera)... 3 x Optical zoom. I bought Samsung maybe due to my pleasant experience with the normal compact camera (I own Samsung and Pentax "analog" camera). The lense is Schneider K.... I don't know much about camera, ..but I heard when you choose new camera, look at the lense manufacturer... if the lense is coming from a well known manufacturer like Leica, Schneider K, Nikor, Canon, Carl Zeiss etc... the camera will print it onto the camera.. sort of like advertisment...

My first impression on the camera, wow... it's small, compact and easy to use..... almost point and shoot... no more buying rolls of films and sending for processing.... I am quite satisfy with it's performance....

Then in 2006... I bought another compact digital camera... Pentax Espio A10... 10 Megapixel resolution, 10 x optical zoom, Pentax lense... reason being I bought it, just because I want (not need ya) which can capture video in DivX format... It's good camera, small compact, easy, .. you can edit photos directly from the camera without saving it first in PC. The photo quality is OK... but,...

I still think my first camera is better.. perhaps I took better picture then last time... maybe i getting older, or i just don't know how to fully utilize the features... Please do look into my online photo storage http://picasaweb.google.com/jalal1999 , the photos that have date on it was from Samsung, the others fromPentax...

Now... I'm thinking of buying new compact camera, Panasonic Lumix Tz15 or TZ5, 9 megapixel, 10 x optical zoom, wide angle 28mm... <---this is the feature that I want... W I D E  angle... I realize, using normal 35mm camera, it's impossible to capture all the image in tight and limited space (like taking pic of family members inside a house, taking pic of equipment inside equipment room)... perhaps this is the solution...

disclaimer: This attitude exhibit by the writer is a typical human behaviour..... hey, you dance poorly... no,  it's not me.,... it's the damned floor.. or my shoe is not right... heheh....

..." di Muar, kerjanya di mana mas?" ... " saya kerja buat pam minyak Shell kat Tanjung Agas, lama jugala di situ".... hati aku makin melonjak.. macam jumpa sedara rasanya pulak... "SPBU di hadapan Sekolah Sains tu?" aku mintak konfirmasi...  (note: SPBU = Sarana Pompa Bensen Umum, kira pam minyak la .,...).. .. dia jawap "ha ah bang, depan sekolah sains tu... saya kerja dgn Haji  (aku pun tak ingat nama dia dah)..... murtabak dgn mee bandung situ sedap bang..."... kacau mamat ni... dahlah kat tengah2 atas bukit tu.. apa makanan takde... yg ada Indomie pedas kat warung kecik Pak Ukat (penjaga site)... dia boleh pulak citer murtabak Singapura Tanjung Agas.. ..dgn Mee bandung.. ni sure mee bandung Baridah Tanjung Agas... (note: dulu penulis masa sekolah situ, selalu juga kirim kat member yg "fly" malam2 beli murtabak Singapura.....)

... kami ngobrol la lepas tu... tapi tak boleh la lama sangat... karang tak naik pulak first segmant antenna aku (berat 1 ton metrik lebih,   total berat 5 ton metrik)... 

... Inilah kuasa Allah....... siapa jangka...  aku kat atas bukit tempat yg remote mcm ni.. di negara orang.... boleh jumpa org sini yg kerja di hadapan sekolah lama aku... dalam hati aku berkata jugak... nasib baikla dulu aku tak sombong atau buli mamat ni atau kawan2 dia... kalau tak, sure dia ikat aku atas tower 80m tu... heheh...

.. pengajaran jugak buat aku... janganla kita sombong dengan sesiapa, tak kisah org tu buruh ke, pendatang ke, apa2 ke.... kerana kemungkinan ada...  suatu masa kelak.. kalau tak kita, maybe anakcucu kita akan bertemu lagi mereka... atau kawan2 mereka.. di tempat yg asing bagi kita....

Cabaran mudik di sini

Salam,

Sila baca petikan akhbar Jakarta Post dibawah... Ini adalah realiti normal, cabaran mudik di sini. Beratus orang akan mati... sebab kecelakaan, kelalaian dan tak kurang juga perampokan di sepanjang jalan pulang ke desa.... Sampai polisi terpaksa meletakkan unit penembak jitu mereka, di beberapa titik rawan (terutamanya di jalur yg sunyi). 

Pagi ni aku tengok berita, orang Jakarta dan start mudik, ada satu keluarga yg mudik diwawancara... nak mudik ke Tegal, Jawa Timur dari Jakarta... naik motor, ada 3 orang (laki, bini, anak kecik dok tengah) plus barang2.. perjalanan mengambil masa hampir sehari suntuk... 20 jam... Ada juga kes, anak kecik yg meninggal, gara2 perjalanan terlalu jauh, naik motor... mak bapak dia tak sedar.. bila dah sampai destinasi.. anak dipelukan dah mati.. mungkin sebab perjalanan yg terlalu jauh.. naik motor.

Untuk mengurangkan kecelakaan, pemerintah dgn beberapa syarikat swasta mengadakan kempen mudik bersama...  

Jadi bersyukurla kita, sebab masih boleh mudik ke kampung halaman masing2.. dgn keadaan lebih selamat dan selesa...

Berhati2 di jalanraya dan banyakkan bersabar kalau jalan jem...

Hundreds died in traffic during mudik

Thousands vehicles were fined and hundreds of travelers were killed in traffic during the Idul Fitri homecoming season last year, the National Police said.

Homecoming, also known as mudik, has become a tradition for many Indonesian Muslims ahead of Idul Fitri, which marks the end of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. This year, the Idul Fitri holidays are expected to fall on October 1 and 2

"There were 789 people who died on the road last year, in incoming and outgoing traffic," the National Police Traffic Director Yudi Sushariyanto told the House of Representative's Commission V on Monday.

According to Yudi, there will be more travelers traveling by motorcycle this year than last year.

"We are expecting about 2.5 million motorcycles this year, an 18 percent increase from last year's," Yudi said, as quoted by Kompas.

He added that the increase would render more attention being paid on motorcycle travelers.

"Previously we escorted travelers from Jakarta to Semarang, but now we've received request for a convoy all the way to Surabaya (East Java) and also the route back to Jakarta," Yudi said. (amr)

Balik kampung

Tinggal kira2 4 hari saja lagi sebelum aku pulang ke kampung, atau dalam bahasa orang sini mudik ke desa. Pada awalnya aku dah plan nak beli tiket Syarikat tambang murah Airasia, tapi kenyataannya pada waktu itu harga tiket mahal sekali. Masuk ke laman web MAS, manalah tahu boleh dapat yg supersaver ke.. jangan mimpi.. semua dah sold out.

Jadi option lain, naik KLM... dulu sebelum krisis minyak, harga tambang KLM boleh tahan la... tengok mula2 (2 bulan lepas), teragak2 nak beli sebab maseh mengharapkan Airasia ada tiket murah lain. Dari sehari ke sehari, tiket dia naik mcm share market zaman mencanak dulu... tak boleh jadi nih.. Airasia pun dah hampir sama KLM, aku terus sambar KLM... Ok la, naik Boeing 747, seat beso, ada nombor tempat duduk, makan pun ada....Luggage limit pun banyak, 20 kg.. kalau AirAsia hanya 15kg. Balik raya ni kene bawak banyak ole2 and titipan orang.... dodol je dah sekilo lebih.... nasib baik tokeh kek lapis Betawi baru beranak..  kalau tak, tambah lagi 2-3  kilo......

Bertolak sore jam 6... sampai jam 9 malam .. dari KLIA terus balik Muar.. kalau sampai awal la.. kalau tak tido kejap sana.. tunggu awal pagi balik kampung...

Feeling nak balik kampung semacam ni, mungin gara2 ... baru ni dengar lagu Allahyarham Sudirman "balik kampung" di youtube.. dan juga arus mudik di sini... para penghuni kota mulai mudik ke desa masing2... dengan naik bas, lori, mobil, keretapi, kapalaut, pesawat, motor dsb.. naik kuda je aku tak nampak....

InsyaAllah tanggal 26/9/2008 ni.. bersamaan 26 Ramadhan... aku akan sampai ke desa menemui keluarga yg dirindu.......

Google Chrome Beta.. Web browser

Hi, recently I download and test Google newest application, Chrome web browser. The browser look slim, simple and larger, probably because the top task bar is thinner. First impression, I gain bigger screen size.. heheh. Quite take some time to run the www exploration, probably due to my old T60 IBM Thinkpad. Immediately after that, I never felt happy like the first time I use Mozilla Firefox.  Google mention that Chrome would take a quite a bit of memory when start for the first time.

Chrome just run faster, smarter and simple... that the one major advantage, simple to use. The URL task bar simply suggest the place u wanna go, with accurate suggestion. I just luv the most visited site tab. Look like a bookmark, but simpler... 

The tab run independently, and the memory is allocated separately. So if one tab get into throuble or hanged, it's wont affect the whole browser. And they mention, Chrome avoid memory fragmentation.. I also don't understand much about this.

Currently only Windows Vista and XP SP2 supported, with Apple Chrome on the way... If you luv Mozilla Firefox, u'll luv Chrome.

Lagu nasyid bahasa Jawa dari Opick ini cukup popular 2-3 tahun lalu.  Tapi baru kali ini aku dengar sepenuhnya... maybe sebab bulan Ramadhan. Berbuka Puasa di Pejaten Barat

Semalam aku dpt sms dari Pak Nazrin, mengundang keluarga karyawan NSN Malaysia untuk jamuan berbuka puasa dan solat terawih di kediamannya. Mulanya aku ingat majlis tu diadakan semalam, maklumlah dah lama tak rasa masakan Malaysia. Dah siap nak pergi, tengok tanggalnya rupa2nya malam Ahad, kecewa kejap. Tak apa, tak lari gunung dikejar.

Hari ini, jam 5 sore, aku dgn teman ke rumah Pak Nazrin, naik taxi... mula2 agak lupa and keliru arah ke rumah dia... kena bertanya kat orang tepi jalan dan Satpam. Kira2 jam 30 minit sampai ke rumah dia. Teman2 yg lain dan keluarga masing dah ada menunggu di sana. Ternyata penantian aku tak rugi, ada macam2 makanan Malaysia,  ada mee goreng, bihun, asam pedas, sambal tempoyak, ayam goreng rempah, dan kuih-muih. Ada air kelapa dingin lagi. Azan bergema di RCTI, tak tunggu lama terus menjamu selera. Selepas itu kami mendirikan solat Maghrib berjemaah dan solat Terawih dipimpin oleh Ustaz (aku lupa pulak nama dia, aku dah tanya dah). Ustaz tu student Malaysia kat sini, ada 2 tahun lagi di sini katanya sebelum tamat pengajian.

Dan selepas tu, sesi berborak2 bagi org tua2 dan main bungapi bagi bebebudak... walaupun ada orang tua jugak yg main kembang api. Bila berborak, masuk topik tentang Malaysia.... rasanya sampai esok pagi pun tak habis. Rata2 menyatakan kebimbangan tentang situasi di tanahair... mungkin dlm generasi kami yg rata2 usia 30an .. belum pernah rasanya ada rasa kegusaran yg begitu mendalam terhadap situasi di seberang laut sana. Mungkin kami lebih memikirkan apa yg generasi akan datang hadapi, apa yg anak2 kami akan lalui dgn keadaan kegawatan dan ketidaktentuan politik tanahair.... keadaan ekonomi yg kurang stabil dan kos sara hidup yg sentiasa meningkat... yg aku nampak, generasi dulu lebih mempunyai sifat menghromati antara kaum yg tinggi dan sifat toleransi yg positif....

Jam U-Boat tiruan dah menunjukkan 1130 malam, waktu untuk pulang.... kerna esok kami harus bekerja ..  Terimakaseh banyak Pak Nazrin sekeluarga kerana undangannya....

 waktu dlm mobil masing2 masih memikirkan apa yang akan jadi dengan tanahair kita... 

Semoga Allah menyelamatkan Malaysia....

note: tuan rumah ada menitipkan bekalan untuk sahur.... taklah aku makan roti lagi... dan aku akan insert foto budak main bungapi... tapi tak berapa cun.. sbb pakai camera phone...N77...kalau pakai N95 aku... cun jugak.. N95 tu tertinggal kat kampung pulak

First reason, people rushing in, shopping for daily necessities at Carrefour .. secondly because people congregate inside the mall. There's a Church on the 4th floor.

Ramadhan, Terawih and where's your next Ramadhan...

A few years ago, when I was staying in Selangor, most of Ramadhan night I'll went to the mosques nearby for Terawih prayers. And I would normally saw foreigners pray together.... quite a number of them.. staying together, in their traditional dress I presume...

Then last year, I am jobless.. or in better word, in between job (ibj), my Ramadhan Terawih at Muo... best ever Ramadhan and Iddul Fitri for me.. 

Now, I am away again,..

I am the foreigner inside the mosque whenever I go for terawih, with baju kurung Johor, teluk belanga... we just don't know where's our next Ramadhan will be, or are we still alive... 

Selamat menyambut Ramadhan 1429 Hijrah...  selamat menjalani Ibadah puasa dan 10 malam terakhir... Alhamdulillah.. 

Mulakan dgn Bismillah....

I don't know, what is the first thing or idea that i wanna write...  my experience, song lyrics, politic?.. hmm too heavy I think.. and I don't have much experience to share.. 

I ask my dear friend.. any suggestion...   then simply the suggestion is..
